April 11, 2009

VRC had its first annual "Understanding the Underdawg" in which we offered FREE spay and neutering services to any Pit Bull owners in the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley areas.  Being that the Antelope Valley now holds the largest Pit Bull population in all of L.A. County, we felt it was imperative that we focus our efforts there.  In addition to the surgery, the dogs also received FREE microchips, giveaways, a bar-b-q lunch for their owners and FREE one on one training sessions here at the ranch.

This was also the first actual event for Angel Dogs Foundation who allowed us the honor and pleasure of seeing first hand how their state of the art mobile clinic worked.  Honestly this was the most elaborate and awesome thing I've seen as far as veterinary services go.  I mean I love my regular vet but this spay/neuter clinic was so professional and easy for the dogs to go through.  The recovery room even had soft music playing with vet assistants standing by to massage the dogs when waking up and talking to them to make them feel safer.

Thanks to the donation from the Heigl Family and the great team work of the Angel Dogs Foundation, we were able to spay and neuter 33 Pit Bulls in one day!

 Visits are by APPOINTMENT ONLY!!
Due to the increasing number of people showing up that have become obsessed fans, stalkers or that think we are a public zoo, we now have to take control of the situation. We are a sanctuary for these animals and the last thing they want or need is someone coming by just to "check them out". We DO NOT give tours or allow the public to walk around like the animal shelter. Visitations are for those adopting, boarding or training only. This is not only for liability reasons, but for the sake of the privacy of these animals that have already had a tough life.
Please respect that.
If you are interested in visiting, you MUST call and make an appointment.
For those of you, who think you're "special" and are planning on just "dropping by", we have a surprise waiting for you at the front gate.....
SURPRISE!
