C’mon now. Wipe the drool from your chin. He knows he’s a total stud muffin. And can you believe his owner didn’t want him anymore, so he was turned loose into the mean streets of New Orleans!? But his life did not start off as “Dracarys aka The Dragon.” This beautiful specimen began as a post on Facebook in the Big Easy.
We first spotted him and another dog together on social media. The photos were listed on a Lost Dogs page. They were scrounging for food in a junkyard. The Krewe of VRC (that’s us) jumped into action and went and caught them. Right away, we could see that kennel life was not going to work for him, and he became very reactive to everyone and everything and not in a good way. In a “I’m a Doberman, so back the you-know-what-off.” So, at that point, we moved “Chompsky” (the name he earned while at our New Orleans location), and he went into a foster home with one of our employees in the country rural environment of West Virginia.
In a home environment, he flourished, and I renamed him “Dracarys” (yes, like in Game of Thrones) for his dragon-like appearance. Although he has been doing great, there are some specific things that need to taken into consideration when looking into adoption of “The Dragon.” He is very affectionate but we want him to go into an adult only home. He can be a bit serious at times and doesn’t appear to have any interest in hanging out with little two-legged humans. Dracarys is also aware of his surroundings so if there is some stranger-danger lurking around, he’s going to let you know.
He also has some pretty high prey drive so he cannot be around small dogs, cats or any critters. He will chase and connect! But with larger dogs, he’s been great.
Dracarys is great in the house, crated-trained, has some basic obedience training, great out on walks, in the car and even made an appearance at our prison dog program and did great with everyone he met in the prison!
And despite how great he has been, we still want him to go to an experienced dog person who are familiar and comfortable around the large power breeds. And I’m just going to put it out there…ladies….with a dog like this, you won’t need no man to watch your back! The Dragon will send any creep packin’ on looks alone!
