Meet Twik, our gentle old soul who has called VRC home for the past 9 years. At 11½ years old, he carries a lifetime of stories in his eyes — stories of fear, survival, and slowly learning what it means to feel safe.
When Twik first showed up, he wanted nothing to do with people. It took M2 and Kanani an entire week of patience, quiet persistence, and earned trust just to catch him. Twik had every reason to be wary… and he still struggles with trusting humans even now. That’s why M2 is the only one Twik allows to handle his medical care — their bond is that special and that rare.
Twik isn’t a dog who wants the spotlight. He’s shy, reserved, and still keeps his protective walls up. But with the few people he considers “his,” he is incredibly sweet, loyal, and deeply loving. Because of his ongoing trust issues, and because pushing him into a new home would place stress on his heart and health, Twik will remain here at the rescue for the rest of his life, exactly where he feels safe.
Over the last two years, Twik was diagnosed with degenerative lung disease. He has good days and harder days, but right now, he’s still with us… still happy, still showing us the quiet, gentle love he keeps tucked away for the people he trusts most.
We don’t know how much time we have left with this sweet man, but we treasure every moment — every soft look, every small victory, every peaceful day he gets to live surrounded by safety.
