Ramses is a sweet, laid-back guy who has already put in a whole lot of work to become the best boy he can be. After spending time in our Prison Program, he came back knowing all of his basic commands, plus a few extras! He is smart, praise motivated, eager to please, and very food motivated. And by “food motivated,” we mean Ramses has yet to meet a snack he felt he should turn down.
Personality-wise, Ramses is a professional couch potato. He would much rather spend his day lounging near his person, collecting pets and snacks than running around chasing toys. He’ll occasionally chew on a bone or show some interest in a ball, but toys simply don’t compete with affection and treats. He also has a really nice balance when it comes to his people. Ramses likes being close and prefers to keep his person within eyesight, but he doesn’t need to be attached to you every second of the day. If you leave the room, he doesn’t bark or whine. He’ll simply wait for you to come back.
The biggest thing to understand about Ramses is that he thrives on familiarity. Once he knows his environment and feels safe, he is an incredibly sweet, affectionate boy. New and busy environments can make him lose confidence, and large crowds or situations with lots of unfamiliar people, children, or dogs can overwhelm him.
Because of this, Ramses isn’t looking for someone who wants a dog to take everywhere. He’s looking for someone who appreciates a quieter life. He does great riding in the car and would happily cruise around with his person, and we think occasional outings to quiet, uncrowded places or a peaceful walk would suit him just fine.
If Ramses gets to choose between soaking up the sunshine or finding the coolest shady spot available, you can bet this thick-coated boy is heading straight for the shade! Extreme heat is definitely not his thing.
Ramses doesn’t need a complicated life. He needs a calm home, a predictable routine, patience while he settles in, plenty of affection, and preferably a well-stocked snack cabinet. Give him those things, and underneath that big fluffy exterior you’ll find an incredibly sweet boy who just wants to feel safe, comfortable, and loved. And there’s one more pretty great bonus: Ramses is part of our Senior Dog Program so his medical is covered by us at VRC for the rest of his life!
