Chief’s story is a heartbreaking one. He first landed in a city shelter in New Orleans, was adopted, and then sadly ended up in a different shelter in another parish not long after. After being adopted again, we found him tied to our gates—abandoned once more. We couldn’t bear to send him back into another kennel, so we made room and kept him in our care.
What’s most heartbreaking about Chief is how obvious it is that he was once deeply loved. He’s incredibly well-behaved, respectful, and crate trained. He loves his toys, anything with peanut butter, and more than anything, he craves connection with people. Chief is a true “Netflix and chill” kind of guy—he’d much rather be on the couch snuggled up next to you than anywhere else. He does have some separation anxiety and isn’t a fan of storms, and while new situations can be tough for him at first, once he learns the routine and knows he won’t be left behind again (can you blame him?), he settles in beautifully.
Chief would thrive in a home with someone who works from home or has a lifestyle where their dog is part of the daily routine—tagging along on errands, outings, or just being by their side. After all he’s been through, what he truly needs now is someone who will never let him go.
