Imelda’s past is one we wish no dog had to endure. She stumbled upon our staff from a dog-fighting situation, a tight chain locked so cruelly around her neck that every movement made her cough and gag. Her small body was covered in both fresh and old wounds, and at first, she reacted with fear and aggression—until we realized the truth.
Imelda wasn’t just terrified. She was deaf—startled by every unexpected touch or movement in an already unsafe world.
But rescue changes lives, and Imelda has blossomed. Today, she’s a spunky, goofy little ball of energy who keeps us laughing with her full-body wiggles and giant, goofy smile. She may have had a rough start, but she’s all about love and joy now.
Because of her past, Imelda needs to be the only pet in the home, but what she lacks in furry friends, she makes up for in pure affection—especially for kiddos, whom she absolutely adores! This spunky, wiggly girl lights up when she’s around children—she thrives on their energy, their love, and all the belly rubs they’re willing to give.
But because Imelda is deaf, she needs a home with respectful kids who understand how to coexist with a dog who experiences the world a little differently. Sudden touches or unexpected movements can startle her, so a family willing to learn how to communicate with her in a way that makes her feel safe is exactly what she needs.
Imelda has so much love to give, and we know the right home is out there for her—a family that will embrace her quirks, celebrate her joy, and give her the forever she deserves.
