In 2021, Muraco’s owner found himself in an incredibly difficult position and didn’t know what to do.
He had brought home a wolfdog puppy full of hope and excitement. Muraco spent the early part of his life as an inside dog…loved, wanted, and very much part of the family. A few months later, his owner and fiancée purchased a new home to begin their next chapter together.
But the house wasn’t move-in ready.
Believing renovations would be completed quickly, and wanting Muraco close by, they made the temporary decision to move him into an outdoor kennel on the new property, fully expecting he would soon be back inside with them.
Then COVID hit the supply chain.
Delay after delay.
Setback after setback.
Weeks turned into months.
As Muraco grew, so did his needs. Wolfdogs require an extraordinary amount of time, enrichment, structure, and experienced handling. His owner did what he could, stopping by to feed him, clean his space, and spend precious moments together but it wasn’t enough. Not for a growing 8-month-old wolfdog who needed more stimulation, more companionship, and more life than quick daily visits could offer.
They loved him deeply. And because they loved him, they made the hardest decision of all.
Knowing Muraco deserved more than they could provide at that time, his owner reached out to Tia understanding she might be the only person experienced enough to properly care for a young wolfdog.
The surrender was not made lightly.
They tried to stay strong, but when the moment came and Muraco’s leash was handed over, the tears came too. Final goodbyes were whispered through heartbreak. Even knowing he was going somewhere safe, somewhere capable, somewhere experienced… they drove away with an empty kennel in the back of their SUV and a silence that felt heavier than words.
Today, Muraco’s story looks very different.
Now he lives on our gorgeous wolfdog sanctuary property, surrounded by space to run, proper enrichment, and a team that understands exactly what he needs to thrive. He is part of our Wolfdog Sponsorship Program and is officially looking for his very own fan club.
