Slick is a 12-year-old pit bull who has spent nearly his entire life with us here at VRC. From the beginning, this sweet boy carried more anxiety than any dog should. He would break out of kennels, crates—anything—hurting himself in the process. Not because he was “bad,” but because the world just felt too big, too loud, and too overwhelming for him.
But everything changed when one of our amazing employees opened their home to him. For the first time in his life, Slick exhaled. He finally found his safe place… and he bloomed.
Now he no longer tries to escape (well, unless the opportunity really presents itself 😂), and instead spends his days content, comfortable, and finally happy. He has become the kind of dog who watches the world from his favorite spot, knowing he’s loved and protected.
Because of his lifelong anxiety and the way he copes with stress, Slick has always been an extremely difficult adoption—even though he’s such a gentle soul. And now, at 12 years old, we don’t know how much time we’ll have left with him. What we do know is that every single day he has will be filled with spoiling, softness, and love.
